31 Dec 5 Tips on How to Restore the Balance in Your Life

Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.
– Thomas Merton
As positive as one can be at one point in life all of us are faced with the recognition that life can be great but also quite challenging and tough. It requires a lot of balance to navigate calmly through the storms universe is giving us. Read here five hints on how to keep the balance in everyday life so you are not blown away by whatever challenge might appear.
Learn to say “no” and set priorities. If you want to reach your goals or feel happier, learn to put effort and time into things that support this. Say “no” to people and projects who are not in alignment with what you really want. If you restore your balance this way, you will be able to spend it in quality experiences that truly transform your life.
  1. Consume consciously To restore balance in your life, check your finances and ask yourself these questions when you are about to buy a product or service: Is this necessary? Why do I want this? Does this truly add value to my life?
  2. Have less. We all know by now that having more stuff doesn’t make us happy. But actually having less does. It just makes life easier and you have more space to focus on what is really important to you. New research shows that being more materialistic correlates with lower emotional well-being. So to restore your balance focus on all the non-material things that enhance your life such as health, friends, time in nature, family…
  3. Meditate. You can control your world if you know how to manage your thoughts. Practice meditation for even just a few minutes each day and experience its power to restore the balance.
  4. Practice affirmations. “I am balanced. I give and I receive with ease.”
Positive self talk can be life changing. Speak this affirmation regularly to yourself to restore your balance. When we are in a full balance, we are equally comfortable in both giving and receiving. For today, open to give and open to receive.

Nature already shows that to be in balance requires both sides of an experience. That’s why we have day and night, sun and moon, feminine and masculine, and so on. There will always be new challenges, after every high there will always follow a low. Being in balance means being on a journey, navigating smoothly through the ocean of life, constantly moving. We cannot find balance by standing still as there will always be changes we have to adjust to. Just like Albert Einstein summed it up: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.”

Restore the Balance is also the theme of this year’s BaliSpirit Festival, taking place in Ubud March 24 – 31. You can experience one full week of balancing modalities like yoga, meditation, dancing, healing and music to re-boot yourself. Get more information here.
